Who is Jesus? The Question that Defines Eternity
Hello Believer, and welcome. Today, we're going to explore what is arguably the single most important question in all of human history: Who is Jesus?
Your answer to that question will change everything about your life—your purpose, your identity, and your eternity.
Many people have tried to answer it. Some say He was a great moral teacher. Others, a prophet. Some see him as a revolutionary or a historical figure. And while He was the greatest teacher who ever lived, and a prophet confirmed by miracles, all of those answers, on their own, fall short of the truth.
The most compelling place to look for an answer is in the words of Jesus Himself.
One day, his followers were discussing this very question, and Jesus made one of the most exclusive and profound claims ever uttered. He said, in John chapter 14:
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Think about that. He didn't say, "I know the way," or "I teach the truth." He said, "I AM the way. I AM the truth. I AM the life." This is not the language of a mere teacher. This is the language of identity. This is a claim that forces us to ask a deeper question: How could anyone say such a thing?
The Bible gives us the answer in the very same book. In John chapter 1, it says:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us."
This is the central miracle of our faith. Jesus is God Himself, the eternal Creator of the universe, who willingly wrapped Himself in human flesh and stepped into His own creation. Why? Because we were lost, separated from Him, and we could never get back to Him on our own. So, in an act of unimaginable love, God came down to us.
But He didn't just come to be with us; He came on a mission. Jesus Himself described this mission in Mark chapter 10:
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
A ransom is a price paid to set a captive free. The Bible says we are all held captive by sin—that broken relationship with God that is the root of all the pain and emptiness in the world. The price for our freedom was a price we could never pay. So Jesus, the only perfect one, paid it for us. He lived the sinless life we couldn't live, and on the cross, He died the death we deserved to die. He willingly took the full weight of our separation from God upon Himself.
But the story doesn't end in a tomb. Three days later, Jesus rose from the grave, conquering sin and death forever. The resurrection is God's ultimate proof that Jesus's payment was accepted and that His claims were true.
So, who is Jesus?
He is more than a good man; He is God in the flesh.
He is more than a teacher; He is the Truth itself.
He is more than a historical figure; He is the living King who came on a rescue mission to bring you home.
The question is not just, "Who is Jesus?" The real question we each must answer is, "Who is Jesus... to me?"
Your answer will change everything.
